Activities

Some activities to enjoy when visiting Salt Spring Island.

Kayaking

This is one of the most popular water sports on the island. Many people try kayaking for their first time while visiting the island. It gives them a very memorable experience and for many it is the beginning of a new life long recreational activity. There are numerous kayak rental outlets scattered around the island. Most of the kayak operators offer lessons and guided tours.

Wineries

There are three Salt Spring Island wineries. Each of the wineries welcomes visitors to sample wine in lovely vineyard settings – Mistaken Identity near Ganges and Garry Oaks Winery more to the south the island. With three wineries producing over 20 different wines there is truly something for everyone. Sampling wine and food in a beautiful setting is a delightful way to experience Salt Spring Island.

Hiking
  • Ruckle Provincial Park
Located in the southeast corner of the island, it has over 15 km of trails, including 7 km of shoreline.
  • Mount Maxwell Provincial Park
Mount Maxwell provides a fabulous lookout point with spectacular views spanning from Fulford Harbour, northwest to Vancouver Island.
  • Mount Erskin
Is also known as Jack Fisher Trail. Steep sections are common, but there are many level stretches to catch your breath. It is one of the best views in BC, from the top one can see from Duncan all the way west to Chemainus, and north to Howe sound. Keep your eyes open near the top for the little Fairy doors.
